This Could Be the Biggest, Most Profitable Story of 2018

by TradeWins Publishing

On January 1, 2018, recreational marijuana became legal in California.

“The state has issued dozens of permits for retailers to begin recreational sales this week, expanding a market that is expected to grow to $7 billion annually by 2020,” notes the Los Angeles Times. And investors have taken notice in a big way.

Look at Canopy Growth (TWMJF), for example to see how real the boom has been.

Since October 2017, the stock popped from $10 to more than $23 thanks to California, and news that Constellation Brands just took a 10% stake in that stock.

Another big catalyst is Canada, which could legalize it recreationally in July 2018.

No wonder related stocks and ETFs have been racing higher.

The Horizons Medical Marijuana Life Sciences ETF (HMMJ.T) for example rocketed from $9 to nearly $15.81 since November 2017.

As controversial as it may be, it’s also one of the most explosive.

Investors are pouring into the marijuana market at an incredible pace. Sure, marijuana is one of the most controversial stories on the market. But it’s also one of the most rewarding – most profitable ways to make money right now.

In 2016, the U.S. marijuana industry generated revenue of $6.7 billion.

By 2020, it could rocket to $19 billion. While remarkable, that still pales in comparison to the $50 billion estimates provided by Cowen and Company.

Even more U.S. states are looking to approve its medicinal and, or recreational use.

Survival of the Fittest

by Laurence A. Connors and Blake E. Hayward

The following is an excerpt from Connors & Hayward’s Investment Secrets of a Hedge Fund Manager

Trading is one tough game. In the futures markets, 97 percent of all traders lose. Those who win, win big. Individuals such as George Soros, Monroe Trout, and Bruce Kovner make millions year in and year out. Those millions do not appear from the sky. They are taken from the pockets of the 97 percent who lose.

What do the 3 percent have that the other 97 percent don’t have? A trading methodology combined with proper money management and a proper psychology that works.

We believe that in order to survive and prosper at the trading game one must develop a “survival of the fittest” mindset. We believe that the four most important components of that mindset are commitment, a daily approach that is different from the herd, an unshakable belief system, and guts.

COMMITMENT

If you think succeeding at trading is easy, you are out of your mind. Unless you are fully committed to this game, you will lose. Commitment doesn’t mean studying the markets when you feel up to it or when you find the time. It means studying them seven days a week.

PULSE Options Weekly Newsletter

by Chris Verhaegh

Every week Chris publishes his PULSE Options Weekly Newsletter. The following is an excerpt from his most recent issue.

First Things First

Happy New Year! 2017 is officially over. At least as far as trading goes. I’m writing this the morning of Saturday, December 30th, so technically there is still a day and a half before 2017 ends and 2018 begins.

I’m going to start the new year by making a prediction. 2018 will offer far more opportunities than 2017. But more than just making a prediction, I would like to lay out the reasons for my thoughts.

I am basing most of my predictions less on what takes place in Corporate Boardrooms across the US or even the world. But most of the reasons I feel we will have extra volatility (and hence extra opportunity) is directly related to what comes from Washington DC. And to some extent what goes to Washington DC.

The first thing I want to point out may be the last thing to occur. 2018 is a Federal Election year. One third of the U.S. Senate and all 435 seats in the United States Congress will be decided by the vote of the American population on the second Tuesday of November (11 plus months from now).

There is a substantial risk of loss trading commodities, stocks, bonds and options with or without this or any other advertised product, service or system. Also hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain inherent limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading. Since the trades have not actually been executed, the results may have under-or-over compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight.
